The Highwayman or the Elvenking

Well, it's time for another recommendation, for I stumbled moments ago upon a lovely piece. Written to The Highwayman, the old, beautiful ballad of a poem that Loreena McKennit sings so sweetly, the story is called The Elvenking. It is about Thranduil, King of Mirkwood and father of Legolas. You don't necessaily need to know anything about Thranduil, or even Lord of the Rings, to appreciate this, though; it's simply a beautiful piece of work. I sang it to the tune of the song as I read, and it fits perfectly. The brilliance of the piece is how it ties so well to both the originial poem and to Lord of the Rings. Most "songfics" don't do that, but this isn't a songfic. This is a re-written poem, with entirely new words and story but it doesn't lose the depth of emotion or the beauty of the original. Once more, I highly recommend this, as well as the original version whether written or sung. Do take a look, it's beautiful--either Elvenking or Highwayman, whichever you prefer!
