White for Mourning
Well, I am finally back, but unfortunately do not feel like rejoicing at the moment. I managed to get a new chapter of both Exploring Darkness and Shadows Creeping posted yesterday, so I ought to be excited. However, after enduring the horrors of my evil, evil, [please insert your favorite nasty description of choice] evil Drawing II teacher, I can't quite muster up an ewok dance of joy. Apologies. Instead, I will offer you a brief, beautiful story by the wonderful Noldo entitled White for Mourning. It's lovely, and just sad enough to make me happy right now. It's a lovely view of what those left behind by the men who went off to fight in the War of the Ring would feel after learning of the outcome...those who live in Rhun and Harad. Yes, the Haradrim had families too, and many brave warriors perished on both sides of the Pelennor Fields. Beautiful, grieving, and just the thing to make you remember that every conflict has more than one side. Enjoy.
Oh, and terribly sorry that the updates won't be popping out quite as quickly as I intended originally. I need to devote my time right now to reading, as I volunteered to help with the Flame of Arnor Awards over at lotrfanfiction.com but don't fear, I'll be writing too! And don't worry, I'll be back with better spirits--and more updates--soon!

Avie here! That was a beautiful story. Very brief, but very, very poignant. I'm so glad you updated! I loved the new chapter. Definitely worth waiting for. Please update more often, and cheer up!
I will definitely let you know when I'm published, as well as the title of the book. I just hope I *will* get published.
I wrote a new one-shot about a week ago. Another angsty-Elf fic called Requiem of Sorrow. If you want you're welcome to read it. Can't tell you what it's about, or I'd ruin it.
Take care!

Avie,
Definately I want to read it! Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to until Jan 15th-ish. :( Promise I will! But on top of the evil, evil, evil homework they dropped on me this semester (I knew it was going to get worse, because although my teachers last semester were wonderful, everyone else was buried by their work-load, so I was just biting my lip and waiting for it!) I'm getting close to wrapping up Exploring Darkness at last--I can't tell, but probably only five-ish or so chapters left to go, the next two of which are already written and one's going up in a few minutes--and I'm also busy with the Flame of Arnor. Thank the Force I'd already read Thundera's Land of Light and Shadows enough times to not have to re-read the whole thing; it takes a while to read, worth it thought it is--and I should know, having lost the sleep to prove it! ;) Heh. Anyway, yes, look for me around the 15th when I start playing catch-up on all the lovely stories I missed over the last month. Can't wait to read it! :D
Oh, and definately good luck on the publishing thing, I know just what you mean! I'll cross my fingers for both of us, how's that?
Thanks! I'll look forward to it!
And crossing the fingers? Of course! What kind of a novel are you working on? Mine's a fantasy that sort of spoofs fairy tales, but I managed to scuff through and make it original, too!
~Avie
Yay, good for you! Mine's fantasy as well, and I really don't know what I'm doing with it; I have some nice characters, but only the vaguest bit of a plot (characters are natural for me, but plots are difficult!) right now. Currently I'm creating the history of the world, but I've gotten a wee bit stuck. Anyone have insights onto the basics of dwarves? They're confusing, and I need to craft a culture from scratch that, unlike most annoying fantasy, is not a knock-off of human cultures with short, bearded people. That's sort of the point of the story; write one that is detailed and realistic, with all the little things that drive me nuts fixed and eliminated. Well, that and I sat down one day and created a six page description of my version of what Elven culture and physiology would be, and needed a world to go with it...;) It'll probably be at least three or four years before I'm done, but I finally have the impetuous to finish something original because there's something to do with it. Isn't that great? I'm excited--and I'm excited for you, too! And I'm really tired because I only got three hours of sleep last night thanks to some evil construction that started at eight (yes, I went to bed at five. Blame Thundera Tiger!) so I'm babbling, sorry about that! I'll stop now. :)
Ugh...I know what you mean about plots. I went through about a bazillion of them before I found the right one for my story. My stories usually tell themselves. That's why it takes me so long to finish them! XD Ah, well. At least this one's almost done.
And yours sounds so cool! I love reading things that break away from the old ideas and stereotypes and blaze their own trail. This sounds like a great idea! I hope you can do it, and I'd love to read it eventually!
Thanks for your encouragement and enthusiasm. It's really sweet, and you don't have to do it. I really appreciate it.
Your friend,
Avie
Yeah, my stories usually just kind of happen as well. (Which makes writer's block really difficult to get around, as they aren't usually layed out in advance...although I've been trying to do a little bit of that lately, to see if it makes them any better...dunno yet.) I can't wait to read it! :D
I'll definately make sure you read it. Careful, though, sound too eager and I'll make you become my sounding board for plot ideas! Bwahaha!
I love twists, too; makes your sound good as well! Good luck!
Avie, you are more than welcome, and likewise completely. Besides, you deserve it! I like your stuff! Keep writing always and good luck forever. *mwah* And down with writer's block! ;)
Avie says: AGREED!!
